Obedience in Islam: and obeying the Prophet peace be upon him

Obedience: to who and why we should obey. It occurred to me to write something about obedience some time ago but it seems like an appropriate time to link it to the birthday of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. I have realised the importance of obedience and how it can benefit us and keep peace in our lives over the years. When I was a teenager I did not see it's importance at all.  At that time it was better to argue and ask why. However, I gradually saw that it does not really get anywhere to do that a lot of the time.  When we don't obey authority we are often punished, shouted at, ridiculed or even hit at times depending on the circumstance and who is in control. I once was travelling and some soldiers were shouting at people to move and stand in line.  People shouted back that they were late.   It seemed like everyone has special circumstances. All that happened was that they shouted more.  Everyone was shouting and yet still had to get in line...

The Birthday of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him: can we celebrate it or not?

The Birthday of Prophet Muhammad: Can we celebrate it or not? The Birthday of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is Monday 18th October 2021. The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him was born on 12th Rabia Al Awal in the year of the elephant. He was born on a Monday.  In an authentic hadith, Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him was said to have fasted on Mondays. When he was asked why he fasted on Mondays he is said to have replied that this was the day he was born. This is a big evidence that Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him singled out Monday's because it was the day he was born. Therefore, singling out the day for remembering the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is not contradicting the religion. Scholars such as Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani and ibn as Subki have used these hadiths as evidence for the permissibility of celebrating the birthday of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. However, that does not mean that people who do not celebrate it are wrong. It is permissible to cel...

The gender issue: science, morality, womens rights and transgender

So recently we have been told that political correctness means that we have to deny women any identity to a specific gender. It is actually embarrassing to repeat what these MPs have been talking about on national television.  I have also noticed that other women are embarrassed and reluctant to talk about female anatomy on national television. It is especially embarrassing for women to be addressed by men on such issues. Who have them the right to do so? Is this another way perverts are trying to get to discuss the female body? Whatever happened to modesty? Indeed some issues in the past were subject to discretion. I even wonder why on earth anyone in their right mind would thing to discuss a subject. In fact, the answer is just so obvious. Why are people wasting their time talking about things that are so obviously not worth it. There are famines, wars, and people dying and suffering from real oppressions in the world  Why don't they discuss solutions to such problems...

Covid, the vaccine, science and morality

Covid, Vaccines, Science and Morality (and religion) I think that most people know now that there is speculation surrounding the coronovirus whether it is actually naturally occurring or leaked from a lab. Quite a few claims are that it was leaked from a lab in Wuhan China, after scientists were testing the disease from bats. One can only ask, if this was the case, why on earth were they testing such things in the first place? If it really did leak, why would they not say so in the beginning, warn people and take action to prevent it spreading? While there are some illnesses that come from animals and spread to humans covid does seem suspicious. After all, bats have been around for centuries and to my knowledge we did not hear of such an illness before. Chinese people also ate them previously, but still there was no covid. Therefore, it does seem that something was deliberately influenced or altered to make such a powerful virus. If scientists are really doing such things, is thi...

Why do we suffer trials, tribulations and hardships in life?

Why do we suffer trials and tribulations and hardships in life? Unfortunately many people do not really understand the real purpose of life difficulties and hardships in life. People see any difficulty or set back either as an injustice, an evil, or a punishment from God. However, the Quran tells us that people - all people - with suffer trials and tribulations. Since the reader he or herself is addressed in the verse, it also implies that even people who read Quran and believe will suffer from such tribulations. The Quran does not say such difficulties and trials are a punishment, rather we are told in one that it is to test who deal with trials and tribulations in the best way. In another verse are told that the patient people are blessed people. Therefore, such trials and tribulations are really a test of our faith. When our faith is strong, it should not affect us too much. We should also learn how to deal with such trials and tribulations in the best way by developing wisdom...
